School Supplies for Students Drive- To benefit students in Haiti in rural communities

Join Simact Foundation as we organize the School Supplies for Students Drive to help ensure that thousands of local children in Haiti start the school year with the tools they need to succeed.

Education has and remains the only way out of poverty for poor children and families living in Haiti, and your contribution of the basic necessary tools to ensure a successful school year is the right way to go. School aged kids will get a boost in starting the new school year off the right way with your help and participation. The collection will alleviate the financial burden on parents who are struggling to provide for their children as the new school year starts Oct 2010.

We provide backpacks full of school supplies: Pens, pencil boxes, glue, binders, two-pocket folders, crayons, colored pencils, markers, scissors, rulers, erasers, notebook paper, subject notebooks and composition books. These kids are extremely poor and need the help. There also is a need for calculators, especially more technologically developed graphing calculators for high school students to use in advanced math courses. If you have one you're no longer using, it would be wonderful to donate it. The supplies will be collected and then sorted by volunteers Sept. 11 at the Simact Center located at 2687 Bedford Avenue Brooklyn, NY. • Volunteer to sort supplies during late August/early September • Plan a drive or school supplies party at your business, club or community – including staff, customers and/or residents. Think along the lines of the way you would handle a toy drive at Christmas time. • Make a monetary contribution to the drive. International, government and corporate leaders gather in New York, for the premier event for Haiti in the United States. The Dinner pays tribute to leaders in Haiti and abroad— and supports Simact Foundation’s work.

On Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Grand Prospect Hall, Simact Foundation will recognize the work of individuals who have made a significant impact in the lives of Haitian’s in the Diaspora and Haiti. The theme of the 2010 Dinner is Rebuilding Haiti through Leadership and Innovation.
